Amanda Russell helps create awareness of heart attack risk factors

(gentle music) – Hi, I’m Amanda Russell
from AmandaRussell.tv, and I am so excited to be a part of the American Heart Association’s first ever YouTube channel. Heart disease was something that I grew up knowing ran in my family, and I remember vividly when my grandmother suffered a heart attack
at a relatively young age. I remember how it altered her life and limited her in so many
things she was able to do. Thanks to the American Heart Association, and so many innovations,
and so much of the research that has come out, her life has drastically improved. She’s able to do more today than she was five years ago, but the
concept that heart attacks and heart disease only
struck as an older person still resonated with
me, and it wasn’t until I was in college, I
was running in college, and I remember the news
of a former competitor who had suffered a heart
attack and died on the track. This was a collegiate athlete who had died from a heart attack. She was 19 years old. I remember being confused
how could this happen, thinking, “I didn’t think you could “have a heart attack at such a young age.” There are so many risk
factors we don’t know about. Thanks to the American Heart Association, they’re raising awareness on many of the different risk factors that put you at risk for heart
disease and heart attack. I want you to become a change-maker today, to donate to the American
Heart Association. Visit their channel on YouTube, become a subscriber, and donate. Together, we can make a difference. You never know who this
is going to affect. It could be your mother, your father, a daughter, a son, could be you. So let’s be proactive
and let’s make a change. (gentle music)
