Boy, 8, suffers heart attack while on cruise headed toward Bahamas

local 10 exclusive a family grateful to the rescuers and doctors who saved their eight-year-old son after he had a heart attack on a cruise ship the little boy finally well enough to go home after receiving treatment at Nicholas Children’s Hospital local sensin Elsa Vova tells us what led to the frightening medical emergency eight year old Noah Anderson was having fun on a family cruise enjoying his winter break away from school in Cincinnati when on the final night things took a dramatic turn as soon as I saw him on the floor I ran down as fast as I could and I could tell he was gone at that point I just pulled him out started CPR right away I went over and laid my hand on him and prayed for him most parents feared it might have had something to do with his heart Noah has a heart condition we’ve known about it since he was a year old it’s called hypertrophic cardiomyopathy and one of the big dangers is that you can have a sudden cardiac arrest Noah had an abnormal rhythm forcing him to collapse the ship was two hours away from Nassau and the captain turned it around so that he could receive treatment Noah was heavily sedated for nearly a day before he was flown to Nicholas Children’s Hospital Saturday morning days later doctor said he needed surgery he had the ICD an implantable cardioverter defibrillator implanted on Tuesday doctors giving a defibrillator a special name calls it the guardian angel every time that it’s below 60 or 50 my heart rate it will automatically put it back up Noah shown tremendous progress and his parents couldn’t be more thankful we just are overwhelmed with gratitude just that he’s alive but he’s with us that he’s still the same funny goofy Noah that we’ve always had so my buddy here Noah has spent five days here Nicholas Children’s Hospital he is thankful for all the doctors that took care of him thankful for his guardian angel and he can’t wait to go back home to Cincinnati where you’re gonna have some time off from school that makes you happy right and what’s the plan hang out with some your brother’s not so much alright well that’ll do it for us here from Nicholas Children’s Hospital its Nellis above ik local 10 News
