In this video, I’ll uncover whether or not
you can actually fast if you have low blood sugar. Hi, Ladies and gentleman. I’m Dr.
Zyrowski and welcome back to the channel. Now if you you’re new to the channel it’s

community so that way I can help you excel your health and your life. Now in this video we are going to uncover
can I fast with low blood sugar? I have people all the time, they see my fasting videos they
see my all material I put out there on intermittent fasting and three day fast and water fasting.
And they say well I would really love this information but I can’t do it because I
have low blood sugar. I go from the place of hyperglycemia where I have too much blood
sugar to hypoglycemia where i’m crashing and this isn’t for me. Well the truth is this
is for you but you have to know how to approach it. Because one of the great things for actually
balancing blood sugar is actually doing fasting. Let’s go ahead in this video put some practical
thought to this whole topic and then create a plan as to how to move forward. So, first of all when we look at this topic
we’re talking about pre-diabetes and also diabetes type 2 okay. This is where people
are going from high blood sugar to low blood sugar. And they have this huge blood sugar
instability in the case of pre diabetes a lot of people have this unknowingly. It’s estimated that 84 million people have
pre-diabetes and they don’t even know that they have it and so this is something that
is a big problem because you’re going to have those big states of hyperglycemia and
hypoglycemia if you have prediabetes now of course if you have full blown diabetes this
is a whole nother problem. When we look at diabetes it essentially means that you have
too much sugar in the blood and you have too much sugar in the cell and what insulin is
trying to do is take that sugar out of the blood and pack into the cell but the cell
is already full so you end up with this toxic overload of glucose in the body and then you
have this diabetes issue. Now typically when you go to the doctor they go well let’s
go ahead and raise insulin levels up so they give you a medication that just pushes more
insulin in and it doesn’t solve the issue because the issue is the high blood sugar,
the issue is not enough insulin. So when we do it actually does great things
for us because it brings that sugar down it brings that blood sugar down, the cellular
sugar down and as a result you become so much healthier for it. A lot of people say well
what happens is I go into that hypoglycemia state and as a result you know I just think
that you know it could potentially kill me which you know hypoglycemia in many ways is
very bad but when we look at hypoglycemia and fasting essentially what’s gonna happen
is gluconeogenesis is gonna occur. This basically means that because you have run out of blood
sugar your body turns to the fat stores and starts breaking down the glycerol and turning
it into the energy that it needs to survive and so this is happening at night when you
sleep. This is happening all the time and this is something that is going to happen
when you fast. Now conventional wisdom is almost always wrong. Okay. When we look at
this issue of low blood sugar and hypoglycemia and the idea that you cant fast because of
it well it is wrong. It is just like cholesterol causes heart disease well you know I recently
had a patient that was told by their doctor when your blood sugar drops low eat a candy
bar okay, this is not a solution to the problem because what’s happening is the reason that
the blood sugar is dropping in the first place in the case that i’m talking about is because
people are going and their having high carb, high sugar meals. They’re having these huge
insulin spikes because insulin is so high what it does is after it deals with the blood
sugar the blood sugar drops super low. So it’s this massive problem with instability
blood sugar goes high insulin spikes up it drops it to low hyper hypoglycemia and what
happens is if you’re going and you’re just adding a candy bar in you’re adding
a big dose of sugar everytime you go and have hypoglycemia, you are putting fuel on the
fire. You are creating more of a problem than what is already existing and of course you
know you’re going to suffer in your future for it. So we want to make sure you are not
doing that. When we look at fasting in general the healthy
diet is key here and the reason that it’s key is because when people try to get into
fasting a lot of times they’re not following a healthy diet. I see all the time even with
young kids who are implementing fasting or healthy people who are implementing fasting.
They’re using fasting as a crutch to follow a very horrible diet and that of course is
terrible because you are going to create a pre-diabetic or diabetic condition within
your body, creating blood sugar instability. What you’re doing is you’re just jamming
insulin and blood sugar through the roof and then you’re going into that very low blood
sugar state when you’re fasting. Now people who are healthy they can get away with this
you know while they’re healthy of course but people who have pre-diabetes or type 2
diabetes and they’re getting huge swings in their blood sugar they can not get away
with. So following this healthy diet is so key,
so critical during this time and the reason for that is because when you’re actually
eating when you’re let’s say if you’re practicing intermittent fasting in your eating
window what you want to not be doing is raising your blood sugar high. So following a low
carb diet, following a ketogenic diet is all going to be very beneficial and I teach very
in-depth on both those topics. I’ll put links in the description below to where you
can learn more on it and so we want to make sure that we’re following the healthy diet
it is so critical, so important. Now the next plan of action is this so first of all when
we look at someone who has a lot of blood sugar instability a lot of times fasting can
be uncomfortable. So what we have to look at doing is first of all get into that healthy
diet. That’s very important now when we look at going into fasting we want to go slowly
right. Now just people in general tend to have the problem with going from 0 to 100
like that. Okay like for people who go to the gym and want to start losing weight they
haven’t been to the gym in you know two years and they go there and start sprinting
on the treadmill, not a good idea. You want to ease into it and the same goes for fasting.
Now, what you essentially want to do is if you’re someone who’s eating like let’s
say you’re eating four meals a day what you can do is you can start by just reducing
down to three meals a day. Here is even a better start so once you get on that healthy
diet first of all stop snacking. So stop snacking between meals so even if you are eating five
meals a day stop snacking between each meal. Then after you accomplish that goal go down
to four meals a day, then three meals a day, then two meals a day and you’re doing intermittent
fasting. And then you can even go down to one meal a day if you’d like and your doing
the one meal a day plan OMAD plan. So that is how you can go in and tackle this. Another
thing you want to do too during this time is typically people who have these issues
also want to be adding in sufficient amounts of electrolytes during this process because
their body has more instability and within it they tend to shed more electrolytes because
their insulin high and low and things of that nature. So adding in electrolytes is very
powerful i’ll put a link to the electrolyte powder in the description below that we use.
Now the other thing is that if you want to go and learn more about blood sugar instability,
I did a video on it check that out. It teaches you like pre-diabetes, diabetes, when to know,
how to test it. That sort of thing. Now the last thing I want to mention here is when
to work with your doctor so if you’re someone who already has diabetes and you want to go
in and start doing fasting you need to work with your doctor on it because what is happening
is that if you have diabetes and you’re on a medication you will drive blood sugar
far too low to a dangerous level low and that is not healthy either. Now when you are on
a medication work with a doctor because when you start implementing the healthy diet blood
sugar is going to drop when you start implementing fasting, blood sugar is going to drop. If
you’re on a medication it’s going to just drive your blood sugar down and that’s not
good. So you want to work with a doctor if you have diabetes, if you’re on a medication
and you want to implement fasting. So be sure to share this video with your friends if you
