Kids Heart Challenge: Meet our Heart Hero Finn

Kids Heart Challenge: Meet our Heart Hero Finn

– My name is Kelly and this
is my three year old son Finn. Finn is very energetic,
he’s very humorous, and he just loves to have fun especially playing with other kids. Finn was born with heart disease. We found out about his heart condition when I was 19 weeks pregnant with him. The doctors did not
predict that he was going to make it to birth at all, and he spent the majority of the first year of his
life in the hospital. He had 10 surgeries during that time including one open heart surgery, and Finn was finally able to come home before the age of one, and
he spent about 11 months home until he went into heart failure again and most recently had his
second open heart surgery and 14th procedure all
by age two and a half. Now that he’s had his
second open heart surgery he’s just doing so much better, and just thriving and
moving leaps and bounds with all of his milestones. We support the American
Heart Association because they have helped so many
through their heart research to give them life, and that
life means more birthdays, and more graduations, and
more moments with their family instead of moments in the hospital, and that’s what’s been so
crucial and so important in us helping to spread this awareness because the awareness leads to funding, the funding leads to research, and the research is what
leads to hope for kids like Finn and families like ours. It’s funny because all
of the kids in the school say that Finn is their hero when really, they are Finn’s hero. The American Heart Association
has helped our family tremendously because
without that research, he wouldn’t be here, and
we are very, very blessed to be able to live out that difference and that impact that they’re
making every single day. (light music)
