it’s not hard to find Athugala to anyone who visits Kurunegala town. This rock is that much enormous. In ancient days, Kurunegala was called, ‘Athugalpura’ because of the rock situated in the middle of the town. Spreaded on an area more than 157 acres, standing 476 feet high, this rock is like a giant tusker guarding the city. Because of its resemblance to a giant tusker (Athaa) this rock is called “Athugala” We came to Kurunegala to visit “Athugala” . If you’re visiting I think the most convenient time to be here is the evening, Because then you can witness a breathtaking lovely sunset. Also I’ll show you, That’s Kurunegala town down below, You can see the lake over there, And from this side you can have a look at the whole town. And here you can see the statue of Lord Buddha. So, if you’re visiting Kurunegala, make sure you’ll be here on Athagala, Because this is the best place you can witness the beauty and the vast area of Jurunegala town.
