The NHS Diabetes Prevention Programme story
Modern life makes it hard to be healthy, and
every year more and more people are being diagnosed with Type 2 diabetes.
This can lead to stroke, blindness, heart disease, kidney failure, limb amputation and
early death. But this doesn’t have to be your story. Making
small changes to your lifestyle now can have a big impact on your future health; and the
NHS Diabetes Prevention Programme can help. Even if you’re at high risk, you can help
prevent Type 2 diabetes by joining the NHS Diabetes Prevention Programme. Where you’ll
receive personalised, tailored advice on eating healthily, being more active and losing weight.
The NHS Diabetes Prevention Programme is free and runs regular sessions locally to help
you, and others like you, learn about how you can make simple lifestyle changes to improve
your health and reduce your risk of developing Type 2 diabetes.
Go to diabetes.org.uk/risk to get an estimate of your risk of developing Type 2 diabetes.
Take up the offer of a free NHS Health Check, which will assess your risk of Type 2 diabetes,
cardiovascular disease and other conditions such as high blood pressure.
Or, ask your GP or Practice Nurse if you think you’re at risk of Type 2 diabetes and would
like to check if you’re eligible to join the NHS Diabetes Prevention Programme.
